Each year, approximately 50 children in Northwest Florida are newly diagnosed with cancer, highlighting the importance of community awareness and support.
Although cancer remains the leading disease-related cause of death among children in the United States, childhood cancer research continues to receive only a small portion of overall cancer research funding. Increased investment in research is critical to developing more effective treatments, safer therapies, and ultimately finding a cure for childhood cancer.
The School Board also recognizes the significant contributions of the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research and Rally Gulf Coast, organizations that provide funding for innovative research and support services for children and families facing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
By proclaiming September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the School Board encourages students, families, staff, and community members to join efforts throughout the year to increase awareness and support fundraising initiatives that advance childhood cancer research.
