Hispanic Heritage Month is observed September 15th through October 15th. This month of recognition has been established to celebrate the cultures, histories, and contributions of American citizens who have ancestral lineage from Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, or the Caribbean. President Lyndon Johnson initiated the observation in 1968 and it was enacted into law as a month-long celebration by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. The month begins on the anniversary of Independence for Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Honduras and includes Indigenous Peoples' Day or Dia de la Raza which is October 10th.
The Okaloosa County School District will host our annual Door Decorating and Art Contest and students are encouraged to participate in the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida Art and Essay Contests!
