The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) proudly recognized two exceptional Baker School student-athletes, Connor Harmon and Will Sloan, for their remarkable achievements during the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) season. Their dedication to excellence in both academics and athletics has not only elevated their individual success but also brought historic accomplishments to Baker School.
Connor Harmon: 2026 FHSAA Division 1A State Champion in Traditional Weightlifting (139 lbs)
Connor Harmon, a sophomore at Baker School, has been a part of the school community since fourth grade. An outstanding student, Connor maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA and a 4.45 weighted GPA, ranking fourth in his class. He is set to begin dual enrollment next year, further demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence.
Connor joined the Boys Weightlifting program in eighth grade, competing first under former Head Coach Andy Valmus and now under Head Coach Vada Moore. Known for his discipline and strong sense of purpose, Connor has steadily developed into one of the top lifters in the state.
His progression through the weightlifting ranks reflects his dedication:
2024 Season (129 lbs):
4th place at districts with a 315-pound total
Advanced to regionals, placing 12th with 295 pounds
2025 Season (129 lbs):
District runner-up with a 375-pound total
Regional champion with 400 pounds
Competed at state championships with a 395-pound total
Played a key role in securing Baker School’s historic Boys Weightlifting State Runner-Up title
2026 Season (139 lbs):
District champion with a 510-pound total
Regional champion with 480 pounds
FHSAA 1A State Champion with a winning total of 505 pounds
Connor’s state championship performance highlights years of hard work, perseverance, and growth. His achievements stand as a testament to his commitment and represent a proud milestone for Baker School athletics.
Will Sloan: 2026 FHSAA Division 1A State Champion in Track & Field (Javelin)
Will Sloan, a junior, has been part of the Baker School community since first grade. Like Connor, Will excels academically, maintaining a 3.96 unweighted GPA and a 4.43 weighted GPA while participating in dual enrollment courses. He is also ranked fourth in his class.
Will began competing in Javelin in 2024 under Head Coach Wilder Kersey and has rapidly emerged as one of Florida’s premier throwers. His steady improvement each season reflects his dedication and commitment to mastering the sport.
His career trajectory showcases impressive growth:
2024 Season:
3rd place at districts with a throw of 140’7”
6th place at regionals with a throw of 130’10”
2025 Season:
District champion (171’10”)
Regional champion (183’1”)
State runner-up with a throw of 175’0”
2026 Season:
Defended district title with a throw of 185’6”
Defended regional title with 183’7”
FHSAA 1A State Champion
At the state championships, Will delivered a dominant performance:
Opening throw of 195’9” — the longest in Class 1A for the season
Second throw of 204’9” — the longest throw in the entire state of Florida across all classifications and the 24th-best mark nationally
This outstanding effort secured Will’s first FHSAA state championship and marked the first-ever state title in Javelin for Baker School.
