The Okaloosa County School District proudly celebrated the achievements of students in the Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program at the annual S.T.A.R.S. Ceremony. The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation (OPSF) proudly supports this event. The event recognized 12 incoming freshmen starting their Take Stock in Children journey and 19 graduating seniors who completed the program to earn a two-year college scholarship. These scholarships reflect years of dedication and hard work.
Lori Lipnicky, TSIC College Readiness Coach, introduced the students and celebrated their accomplishments with mentors, educators, families, and supporters. Take Stock in Children helps students reach educational and career goals through mentorship, college readiness coaching, and scholarships. Program participants show academic potential, financial need, and dedication. To remain eligible, students must meet with mentors, maintain strong academics, remain drug- and crime-free, and remain active in school and the community.
“One of the greatest investments is in our students’ futures,” said Marcus Chambers. “Take Stock in Children provides the support, encouragement, and opportunities students need for academic and personal success. We are proud of their perseverance, leadership, and commitment. Their achievements reflect the dedication of mentors, families, educators, and partners who believe in our children.”
A special highlight of the evening was Shalytha Payne-Blevins, a teacher at Crestview High School, presenting the Outstanding Senior Award to her mentee, Aiden Sexton, in recognition of his exceptional achievements and commitment throughout the program. Kathleen Ball, a school counselor at Ruckel Middle School, shared her personal journey and encouraged students to pursue their goals and aspirations. The district thanks dedicated mentors, supportive families, generous donors, and community partners whose commitment transforms students' lives across Okaloosa County. Congratulations to this year’s S.T.A.R.S. honorees as they pursue bright futures.
