Okaloosa Technical College (OTC) has been officially designated as a Collegiate Purple Star Campus by the Florida Department of Education, recognizing the institution’s strong commitment to supporting active‐duty military members, veterans, and their families as they transition into college and career pathways. The designation was confirmed in a letter from Kathryn S. Hebda, Chancellor of the Florida College System, who noted that Florida is committed to being the most military-friendly state in the nation. The Collegiate Purple Star Campus Distinction, established by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis in June 2023, honors colleges that provide exceptional support systems for military-affiliated students.
In the award notification, Chancellor Hebda stated that OTC met all statutory requirements for the designation, including:
A designated military liaison
A dedicated military webpage
A student-led transition program
Professional development for staff on military student issues
Priority registration for military students and families
Based on meeting these criteria across all OTC sites, the college is officially recognized as a Collegiate Purple Star Campus for a period of three academic years.
