Okaloosa County School District Launches Champions of Education

The Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) proudly launched its new Champions of Education initiative, designed to provide community members with an inside look at the district. The program fosters engagement, understanding, and collaboration by offering participants a firsthand view of the operations, academics, and innovations that drive student success. Through a series of four interactive sessions held throughout the school year, attendees will explore a range of topics, including curriculum and student services, budget, facilities, and innovation. The inaugural session, held on September 29, 2025, welcomed a diverse group of community leaders eager to learn more about and support Okaloosa schools.

During the kickoff, Superintendent Marcus Chambers provided an overview of the district’s six pillars, and participants also gained insight into OCSD’s budget, enrollment trends, capital improvement projects, and the impact of the Half-Cent Sales Tax. Assistant Superintendent of Academic and Student Services, Mrs. Sheila Lightbourne, led a dynamic presentation on curriculum, even challenging guests with sample test questions. The group then visited Edge Elementary School, where students proudly showcased their clubs, including C.A.R.E. Crew, Space Raiders, Robot Design, and Lego League. Guests also observed classrooms in action and engaged directly with students. The day concluded back at the Central Office, where participants experienced hands-on math and science lessons using PRISMS VR Goggles, a glimpse into the modern tools shaping Okaloosa classrooms.

Neko Stubblefield, Senior Vice President of Membership and Community Development for Eglin Federal Credit Union, stated the following: “I’m deeply honored to be selected as one of the inaugural Champions of Education for the Okaloosa County School District. It’s inspiring to witness the incredible work being done to elevate education for our youth. I’m excited to support the district’s six pillars: Academic Excellence, Continuous Learning, Student Focused, Safer Schools, Modern Innovation, and Community Engagement. Under Superintendent Chambers’ visionary leadership, these initiatives are shaping the future of education and opening lasting opportunities for our students.”

“Our Champions of Education program is about building bridges,” said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “By inviting community members into our schools, we not only showcase the incredible work happening every day but also strengthen the partnerships that help our students thrive. Together, we can ensure Okaloosa schools continue to be among the best in the state.” The following Champions of Education session, scheduled for October, will spotlight additional departments across the district, continuing to build meaningful connections that benefit students, schools, and the community.
