Sherri Chavez Named Florosa Elementary School Assistant Principal

The Okaloosa County School Board approved Sherri Chavez as the Assistant Principal of Florosa Elementary School at the April 8, 2024, School Board meeting.

In 1997, Sherri Chavez was hired by Terry Hecker-Bevino as a Varying Exceptionalities teacher at Longwood Elementary School. During her 17 years at Longwood, she taught 3rd, 4th, and Title 1 Reading. She assumed several leadership roles including Title 1 coordinator and SAC President.  In 2015, Chavez left Longwood to serve the District as an English Language Arts (ELA) Coach. As a Coach, she supported Florosa, Destin, Kenwood, Wright, and Eglin Elementary Schools. This position provided the experience to work collaboratively with District staff, administrators, and teachers. In 2021, Chavez transitioned into the School Counselor position at Florosa and hopes to continue to support the teachers, staff, and families in the position of Assistant Principal.

Mrs. Chavez met her husband, Dennis, while attending college in Tallahassee, Florida. After graduating, they returned to Okaloosa County. They have two children who attended great schools within the District including both Choctawhatchee and Fort Walton Beach High Schools.
