Walker ES Hosts Love.Read.Learn For Parents

Walker Elementary School recently hosted Love.Read.Learn! for K-2nd parents.  The program is managed by the Volunteer USA Foundation/Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and is funded by Dollar General Stores completely free of charge.

The Love.Read.Learn! presentation is a dynamic fun program designed as a guide for parents on ways to help their child achieve academic success and is based on the research of the National Reading Panel and the Five Key Components of Reading Success:

  • Phonemic Awareness
  • Phonics
  • Fluency
  • Vocabulary
  • Comprehension

Each family received a free take home kit that included a variety of fun games and strategies for reading, a book, informational guides, and other tools utilized in the activities taught during the workshop.  Parents participated in easy-to-understand activities that integrated the Five Keys.

“Moms and dads shared afterwards that the methods and games were easy to understand and activities could be used every day at home with their child,” said Renee Rogers, Walker’s Title 1 Teacher.  “Parents also shared that the workshop was very informative and simply outstanding!”

Walker Elementary School appreciates the eager involvement and partnership of our parents in their children’s reading success.
