Eglin Elementary Hosts Successful STEAM Camp

Eglin Elementary School hosted an eight week STEAM Camp this summer that combined Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, with Art. The program was held twice a week and was designed to spark student interest in science and math through art.

Over forty students attended the camp and were exposed to a variety of hands-on activities. Students had the opportunity to create their own screen savers by learning basic computer programming language. They experienced Isaac Newton’s laws of motion with cars built out of interlocking blocks and learned why bubbles are always spherical.

“We wanted to offer students the opportunity to continue with anything connected to science during the summer,” said Dr. Karyn Combs, Eglin Elementary Principal. “We put our heads together to come up with arts integration, and we called it STEAM.”
