Destin Elementary School Celebrates Whirled Peace

Hundreds of brightly colored pinwheels whirled on the lawn near Destin Elementary School today in celebration of the International Day of Peace.

The Destin Elementary School students decorated the pinwheels with bright colors and peace signs and placed them on the lawn as part of the celebration. Students then lined up to form a giant peace sign.

Pinwheels for Peace started as a simple idea several years ago as a way to acknowledge September 21st, the International Day of Peace.  It has since grown into a global project with millions of participants. On September 21, 2012, more than three and half million pinwheels were spinning in more than forty countries around the world.
