Ruckel Middle School Cafetorium Named in Honor of Former Principal Dr. Ginny Morgan

The Okaloosa County School Board has unanimously approved naming Ruckel Middle School’s new cafetorium The Dr. Ginny Morgan Cafetorium, honoring the beloved late principal who dedicated her life to education and the students of Okaloosa County.

Dr. Virginia “Ginny” Henderson Morgan began her career at Ruckel in 1968 as a middle school math teacher, later serving as the district’s math supervisor before becoming principal. She passed away on February 15, 2024, at the age of 76. Superintendent Marcus Chambers, who was hired by Dr. Morgan in 1998, reflected on her lasting impact. “Dr. Morgan was a principal, but most importantly, she was an educator,” Chambers said. “For me, she taught me a whole lot, and her biggest motto was, ‘What is best for students?’”

During her tenure, Dr. Morgan implemented transformative programs such as the International Baccalaureate and “Alternatives to Learning,” emphasized her “three A’s” – Academics, Arts, and Athletics – and fostered a strong school culture rooted in student success. The cafetorium, which she envisioned as much more than a dining space, became a hub for student life, performances, science fairs, tutoring, and community events.

Ruckel Principal Joe Jannazo, who presented the proposal, emphasized the high standards she set for both staff and students. “She was small in stature, but she demanded nothing but respect,” Jannazo said. “Everything goes back to what is in the best interest of our kids and the students. I am humbled to follow in those footsteps in that role.”

Dr. David Morgan, her husband of 56 years, expressed his gratitude for the recognition. “I know that Ginny would be humble and proud, so thank you so much,” Morgan said.

The naming of the cafetorium stands as a tribute to her vision, leadership, and decades of dedication that continue to shape the Ruckel Middle School community today.
