For nearly three decades, Take Stock in Children has transformed students' futures—and this year was no exception. The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation proudly hosted the Take Stock in Children S.T.A.R.S. Ceremony at the Niceville Community Center on Monday, May 12, celebrating 29 years of impact through this transformative program. Seventeen graduating seniors were honored for completing the Take Stock in Children program and were awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships, including their two-year Florida Prepaid College Plan scholarships. As part of the celebration, each graduate also received a brand-new laptop and a backpack, generously provided by the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation. In addition to recognizing this year's graduates, the ceremony welcomed 16 new middle school students into the Take Stock in Children program. These scholars will begin their journey supported by mentors, school staff, and the Foundation's resources as they work toward college readiness and future success.
"We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication, perseverance, and achievements," said Superintendent Marcus Chambers. "This program is changing lives, and we look forward to seeing how these young leaders will shape our future." Take Stock in Children pairs deserving students with mentors and provides them with academic support, college and career readiness resources, and scholarship opportunities. The success of this program would not be possible without the ongoing support of dedicated mentors, teachers, administrators, and community members who contribute their time, talents, and resources.
