Sophia Bergmann Receives Award for Aspirations in Computing

Sophia Bergmann, a sophomore at Niceville High School, was recently recognized by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Alabama/Northwest Florida Affiliate Awards Committee. She was selected as a 2013 National Runner-Up for the Award for Aspirations in Computing.

The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing honors young women at the high-school level for their computing-related achievements and interests. Awardees are selected for their computing and IT aptitude, leadership ability, academic history, and plans for post-secondary education. The NCWIT Award for Aspirations in Computing offers both a national and local "affiliate" competitions to generate support and visibility for women's participation in communities nationwide.

Sophia holds several certifications including CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional and is preparing for the Cisco CCNA. She is also an active member of the Junior Classical League with multiple first place wins at the regional and state level in Greek and Latin categories and she earned a Gold summa cum laude on the National Latin Exam. She is captain of the JV Academic team and participates at both the junior and varsity levels.
