NFL Player, Akeem Spence, Visits With Bruner Students

Akeem Spence, a Fort Walton Beach High School graduate and defensive tackle for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL), stopped by Bruner Middle School a few weeks ago to visit with the Bruner Football team.

“Akeem talked a great deal about grades, discipline, and time management,” said Dean Vinson, Bruner’s Football Coach.  “He did not speak much about football.”

Spence attended Bruner Middle School and Fort Walton Beach High School.  He played for the Fort Walton Beach Vikings high school football team and helped lead his team to a 10 - 2 record and district championship his senior year.  Rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, he accepted an athletic scholarship from the University of Illinois where he played for the Illinois Fighting Illini football team from 2009 to 2012.  While at Illinois, he successfully finished his degree in Communications in three and a half years.

On April 27, 2013, Spence was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the fourth round (100th overall pick) of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Congratulations Akeem!
