Today we celebrate the incredible men and women who keep our students safe every single day. Whether rain or shine, hot or cold, our crossing guards greet families with a smile, guide children safely across busy streets, and help ensure a smooth start and end to every school day.
To all of our dedicated crossing guards: THANK YOU for your commitment, your kindness, and your unwavering focus on student safety. Our schools and communities are better because of you!

Our English Language learner students have been busy showing their proficiency on the WIDA. Testing continues for the month of February. We are looking forward to seeing how much their language proficiency has grown. Our resiliency trait for February is empathy. Empathy means caring about how others feel and taking action to help. You can help your child with this trait by reading a book or watching a movie that shows a character displaying empathy toward others. Ask your child to identify ways the character demonstrated empathy. Another activity is having your child identify a time in school or at home where he or she demonstrated empathy. Discuss how this interaction impacted others. March’s resiliency trait is critical thinking and problem solving. You can practice at home by modeling how disagreement can be settled using conflict resolution skills such as compromise, negotiation, agreeing to disagree and analyzing pros and cons. Identifying successful strategies for adjusting to change and setbacks is also a wonderful way to practice critical thinking and problem solving.
Aloha! As Spring Semester unfolds, our Dolphin musicians begin to combine all the skills we have introduced in the Fall Semester to prepare for our end of the year 'Music Showcases'. Dates and details will be sent home on a flyer, on Class Dojo, and on Social Media as soon as possible. During Winter Break, 'Holiday Magic' brought so many new music instruments into the Music Room! Students unwrapped gifts together and are learning about each instrument new to our program. Our main goal is to try to play instruments individually, to discover which instruments bring the most interest and value to each student to inspire secondary music experiences. A farther-reaching goal is for our Dolphins to recognize the artist that they are or have the potential to be, and to work at consistently growing as they practice. So many showcased their love for America, as we prepare to celebrate 250 Years as a nation this July. They are having so much fun, and we hope to see you at their school day performances in April!
Ms. Wade

Just a reminder that today (Monday) is a Teacher Workday/ Student Holiday and tomorrow (Tuesday) is a District-wide Professional Learning Day/ Student Holiday. We look forward to seeing the rest of our OCSD Family on Wednesday, rested, recharged, and ready to finish the year strong!

It’s almost time to celebrate the season! The Okaloosa County School District will be closed for Winter Break from December 22 – January 2.
➮ Schools & District Offices reopen: Monday, January 5
➮ Students return: Wednesday, January 7
Wishing you joy, peace, and a wonderful holiday season!

We’ve got three short weeks until the end of the first semester and the start of Winter Break—let’s make them count!
On Friday, December 19, most schools will dismiss slightly earlier than usual. Check out the adjusted times so you can plan ahead!

OCSD Family—be sure to set your clocks back one hour before going to bed on Saturday night, November 2. We “fall back” at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 3. Enjoy the extra hour of rest, and we’ll see everyone bright and early on Monday!

TITLE I NEWS
The annual Title I Parent Meeting will be held in conjunction with our grade level curriculum nights. As a Title I school, we have a student/school/family Title I Compact. This compact is designed so that all of us (the student, the family, the school) can commit to a most successful school year for your child.
The Florida Department of Education provides a “Know Your Schools” site, also known as the Edudata portal. that provides each school’s performance data, a type of school report card. Go to https://edudata.fldoe.org/; then, click on school report card. Next, use the drop-down menu to get to the school of your choice.
We will have our first SAC meeting on Thursday, September 18, at 3:30 PM. While we are currently in the process of electing new members, anyone is welcome to attend the SAC meeting. We’d love to have your input on our annual Parent/Family Engagement Plan and our School Performance Plan.
First meeting – Wednesday, September 10 – 5:15 PM in the cafetorium.
We hope to see you there as we discuss the events planned for this year. Volunteers are needed. Please go to www.okaloosaschools.com to complete the annual volunteer application. We look forward to a great year!
Regular attendance is critical to every student’s success. “Perfect attendance” is not our goal. Regular, reliable attendance IS our goal. Students who are absent frequently struggle to keep up with their work, fall behind in grade level skills, and can easily fall into a pattern of continued non-attendance. Please help us by ensuring your child is at school every day unless s/he is ill. Also, we value every instructional minute. Frequent tardies or early checkouts also deny a student of valuable lesson time. We appreciate your support
