Military Student Transition Process

Wright Elementary welcomes our military families to Okaloosa Schools!

Welcome to Wright Elementary! We want our new students to feel welcome and at ease right away!  For this reason, we’ve created the following transition process that will be initiated upon your child’s enrollment at Wright Elementary.

Military students are identified during the registration process, and our military point of contact, teachers, and administrators are notified.  Transition planning for academics begins immediately.  Following our Pupil Progression Plan guidelines for initial assessment, we determine each student’s instructional strengths and needs relative to grade level standards in the areas of mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA).  Parents are kept informed of student progress and provided copies of their student’s initial placement/diagnostic data (i-Ready and as applicable, F.A.S.T. [Florida Assessment of Student Thinking]).

Within each student’s first three days at Wright Elementary, they will participate in a Purple Star Tour with designated 4th/5th grade students, our Purple Star tour guides.  Campus areas included in the tour are the front office, clinic, media center, and cafeteria.  Within the following three days, the student tour guides will check in once more with the new student(s) to provide answers to any additional questions.  Our goal is to ensure your children feel welcome and comfortable in their new school.

Parents, you are invited to check in at the front office and have lunch with your student(s) during their class’s regularly scheduled lunch time.  Additionally, at any time during the school year you may request a parent/teacher conference.  We want our parents to feel welcome, too!

We are committed to providing critical transitional support for military-connected students as they relocate to our school due to a parent's change in duty station. Our focus is to eliminate barriers to the academic success of military-connected students. We are here to assist and support the military family lifestyle in such areas as school transitions, frequent moves, deployment, and education inconsistencies that exist from state to state, along with many others.
