Wickery Award

Imagine this: Back in April 2025, Wickery breathed new life into Baker School's long-dormant agriculture program, turning it into a thriving hub for 126 eager students. From foundational ag science to hands-on animal studies, her classes are buzzing with energy, addressing the critical farmer shortage head-on and firing up young minds for real-world careers. Now, as a member of Class 21 in this prestigious program—launched in 2001 and boasting over 200 alumni—Wickery is set to level up her expertise even further.

In a heartfelt letter from Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson dated July 31, 2025, Wickery was celebrated for her selection. "Congratulations! You have been selected to participate in the 2025-2026 class of the Agriscience Education Leadership Program," Simpson wrote. "As a member of Class 21, you are now among an elite group of educators who will bring new knowledge and insight into the classrooms of Florida’s schools."

And why does this matter? Florida's agriculture scene is massive—pumping out over 300 commodities, employing more than 2.5 million people, and injecting a whopping $218 billion into the economy. Wickery's involvement promises to equip her students with the tools to dive into this vibrant industry, from cutting-edge tech to sustainable farming practices. The program itself features three no-cost development sessions throughout the school year, carefully timed to keep teachers in the classroom where they belong.

But Wickery's star power doesn't stop there. Earlier this year, she snagged a teacher grant from the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation, fueling innovative projects at Baker School. And just recently, the local school board spotlighted her achievement, hailing her as a beacon for agricultural education statewide.

"We appreciate your dedication and support of this program and look forward to working with you," Simpson added in his letter. "Together, we can ensure Florida’s students have every opportunity to learn about our rich agricultural heritage and the many opportunities our state has to offer."

With Wickery at the helm, Baker School's FFA chapter is already marching forward—literally, as seen in photos of students proudly donning their blue jackets on campus.

This selection isn't just a win for Wickery; it's a victory for every student dreaming of plowing new ground in Florida's fertile fields. Watch out, world— these future ag leaders are ready to harvest success!
