Welcome back, families, and Happy New Year! We hope you enjoyed a restful and joyful winter break. As we begin January, we are excited to continue the year ahead, building on the strong partnerships between our students, staff, and families as we focus on learning, growth, and success for every child.
Be sure to check out the January Thunderbird News featuring important information on Upcoming Events, Wellness Tips, Why Attendance Matters, and more!
We also want to keep you informed about an important update. As many of you may have heard, Superintendent Marcus Chambers will present a recommendation to the Okaloosa County School Board in January to consider the proposed closure of Mary Esther Elementary School and Longwood Elementary School at the end of the 2025–2026 school year, with students rezoned to other south-end elementary schools. The recommendation is based on declining enrollment and ongoing fiscal challenges. Please watch for information to come home regarding a Q & A meeting that will be held at the school.
As we move into the second semester, our focus remains on our students and finishing the year strong. Together, we will continue to support academic growth, celebrate successes, and make the most of every learning opportunity ahead. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
With Thunderbird pride,
Ms. Johnson, Principal
