🔨📐 Building Strong Foundations Through Math & Construction! 🧰✨
The Okaloosa County School District Career & Technical Education (CTE) Department is proud to celebrate another successful year of the Build Math Program with students from Longwood Elementary School, Elliott Point Elementary Events and Spirit Page, and Wright Elementary School!! 🎉
Now in its second year, the Build Math Program continues to bring math to life through hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom skills to real-world careers in the construction and building trades industry. Throughout the year, students explored measurements, fractions, problem-solving, teamwork, and construction concepts in engaging and meaningful ways.
To conclude the year, students from Elliott Point Elementary and Wright Elementary visited the Building Trades Program at Choctawhatchee High School for an exciting hands-on field trip experience. Students worked alongside high school mentors and instructors to build their own birdhouses and toolboxes while applying the math skills they learned throughout the program. 🐦🪚🧱
A special thank you to Mr. Rynearson for his dedication to the program, Mr. Robledo and the talented Choctawhatchee High School Building Trades students for serving as incredible mentors, and to the Okaloosa County Public Schools Foundation and Florida Power & Light through NextEra Energy grant for their generous support of this opportunity for our students. 💙💚🧡
The OCSD CTE Department looks forward to continuing to inspire students through hands-on learning, career exploration, and real-world experiences that help build the future — one project at a time! 👏

Big cheers for Mr. Devan Miller at Baker School! 🎉 He’s now officially SQL certified! 💻👏Your dedication to students is as strong as your coding skills!😀

Exciting times at Fort Walton Beach High School! 🎉 Our Building Trades program showcased the incredible progress on our student-built tiny house. 🎨✨ CTE Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Jill Frakes – Digital Design, Niceville High School! ✨🎨
With 20 years of teaching experience and 8 years working in the graphic design industry, Mrs. Frakes brings real-world expertise straight into the classroom. Originally from Texas and a proud NWFSC Graphic Design graduate, she’s been inspiring students to create, design, and think like professionals.
💻 In her class, students earn industry certifications in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign — giving them a serious head start toward careers in digital media, marketing, and design.
🌟 Mrs. Frakes says her favorite part of teaching is “that moment when it finally clicks for a student and they start to really enjoy what they’re learning.”
And it’s clearly working! One of her students recently represented Niceville at the Certiport Adobe Certified Professional Championship in Dallas, TX, landed an internship at the Francis Roy Agency, and is now pursuing Graphic Design at the University of Alabama!🐘
Thank you, Mrs. Frakes, for turning creativity into career opportunities for our students! 💙
