School District Distributes Relief Meals

The Okaloosa County School District was given nearly 25,000 FEMA disaster relief meals, that had been brought to Florida in preparation for Hurricanes Irma and Maria, for distribution to students before the holidays.  The meals were divided up amongst the high Title I (free and reduced lunch) population elementary schools.  Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson and Dr. Anita Choice, principal Wright Elementary, are shown above with the meals that were distributed to the students for the Winter Break.

“A very special thanks to Luke Mitchell, our central zone maintenance foreman and his maintenance team for picking up and distributing the meals to our high Title I (free and reduced lunch) elementary schools.  I also want to thank our Okaloosa County Director of Emergency Management, Randy McDaniel, for assisting us in securing these meals for our students, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations Nick Kootsouradis for coordinating the activity,” said Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson.

Dr. Choice stated, “Every day during the school year, we provide meals for our students and we were thrilled that we could at least provide some meals during the holiday season."
