Lewis School Hosts Family Literacy Night

Lewis School’s Title I program recently hosted their Second Annual Family Literacy Night. The evening was full of food, fun, and prizes for pre-K to 5th grade students and was funded by the Title I grant, which serves the purpose of equipping parents with strategies and activities to help extend learning for their students beyond the classroom.

A variety of reading activities were set up in a station-like rotation for students and their parents to cycle through. K-2 students played games such as sight word twister, while upper elementary students practiced their recognition of affixes with a prefix and suffix headbandz activity. Additionally, Clifford the Big Red Dog was in attendance, stopping to take pictures with students as they perused the Scholastic Book Fair. Raffle drawings for a variety of interactive books took place throughout the evening, and those in attendance were given a free book to take home that had been donated to the school. Over 150 students and parents were in attendance for this free community event.
