Choctawhatchee HS Jazz Band Performs Holiday Concerts

Choctawhatchee High School Jazz Band performed holiday selections for six local middle or elementary schools on November 27 and 28, 2017, during a touring performance program specifically designed to provide both upbeat musical entertainment and education and to recruit younger students into future band programs.  The band performed a number of holiday selections ranging from shuffle to swing to rock to traditional holiday music.

Members of the jazz band include freshman through seniors and several students play a secondary instrument within the ensemble. Every member of Choctaw Jazz is also a part of one of Choctaw Band’s concert ensembles - Symphonic Band or Concert Band. Mr. Gudz, our current band intern, led the Jazz Band throughout the performance tour and has been preparing music in class along with his other responsibilities within the band program.

Associate Director of Bands, Bradley Parks, emceed the events by introducing the students to jazz band instruments and encouraging the students to clap or snap along to the melodious beats. The lively performances included many soloists on a variety of instruments, showcasing each one’s talents and abilities.

The band will continue its holiday performances on December 5 and 7, 2017, at 7pm in the Choctawhatchee High School auditorium as they join the school’s chorus for their winter concerts.
