Health Information

The Health Tech is employed by Pediatric Services of America (PSA).  The health tech will assist students who become ill during the school day.  In the event a student becomes ill and cannot attend classes, parents or guardians or emergency contacts will be called and asked to pick the student up in the clinic. Fevers of 100 degrees or higher and vomiting require immediate student check-out.  By Florida State law, parents must have an adult that can be reached during the day recorded on their student's health information card.  Emergency contact numbers are REQUIRED.

Although your child's daily attendance in class is very important to her or his education, please remember that it is important to keep your child home if they are not feeling well. It is especially important for them to be kept at home to prevent spreading germs if they have been running a fever, have a sore throat, have been throwing up, or have had diarrhea. This is for their comfort as much as the wellbeing of the other students at school. For strep throat or pink eye, they must be on an antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to class. For fevers, vomiting & diarrhea it should also be 24 hours from the last episode.

Student Medication

All medications must be stored in the clinic. All medication must be brought to the Health Tech by the parent or legal guardian.  Students are not allowed to bring aspirin, cough drops, or any other medication to school. A parent or guardian will need to complete a Dispersion of Medication form (MIS 5183) and turn it in to the clinic.

Prescriptions must be current. Over-the-counter medications should be unopened, not expired, and must be age appropriate. All medication including prescriptions and over-the-counter medication should be delivered to the clinic by a parent or legal guardian in the original container(s) with proper labeling indicating names, dosage and time. Unless it is necessary for students to keep medication with them at all times (asthma inhalers, EpIPens), all medicine must be stored in the clinic. Teachers are not allowed to dispense any medications (including aspirin, cough drops, Tylenol) to students.

If you have any questions, please call Ms. Qualls in the Clinic.
