BECOME A MENTOR
Ruckel needs you! We are looking for mentors to come and spend some time with students. We especially need a bilingual mentor fluent in Spanish.
The commitment is once per week during the student's 30 minute lunch time.
Studies have shown that students who are mentored develop more positive attitudes, achieve higher grades, improve relationships with adults and peers, are better able to express feelings, are more likely to trust their teachers, and develop higher levels of self-confidence.
Please follow the link https://www.okaloosaschools.com/depts/ca/volunteer for instructions on this process. There is an application and background check that must be completed. Contact Jamie Perry at 833-4142 for more information. We look forward to seeing you on campus!
Congratulations to Ruckel Students Emma Boyett and Brodie Lancanilao for being selected as First Place (Raspberries) and Second Place (Chasin' Chips) in the Drawing Category in the annual Art in the Capitol Competition for 2021-2022, an annual state-wide visual arts competition for students in Grades 6 to 8.

• No phone call is necessary the day your student is out; however, a written note is required to be sent with your student the day they return to school.
• New Procedure as of September 13!!
Upon their return to campus, students have five days to supply a note to excuse the absence. They will bring the note to Ms. Davies in the Front Office and she will verify the note and enter the excused absence in the AS400 and PAWS system, which will be notification that the absence has been excused during the proper time frame. This will eliminate the handling of a note from person to person. She will also mark tardiness and check outs in PAWS.
• No absence will be excused without a written note.
We have three designated pick up points on Ruckel Property:
• The Car Rider Ramp in front of the school • In front of the Ruckel Gym
• The parking lot on the school side of the street across from the Post Office from 7:20
Please don't use the teacher parking lot behind the Cafeteria or St. Jude's Church parking lot. These are NOT designated pick up/drop off areas for students.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Information about appropriate procedures HERE
Parents, please remember students should not be reporting to school prior to 7:00 am as teachers are not
on duty. If your student arrives between 7:00 and 7:20 am, they are to report to the Cafeteria where a faculty member will be present. This is for the safety of your student.
Campus Arrival Period
All students arriving at Ruckel Middle School BEFORE 7:20 am must be dropped off
at the FRONT parking lot or the GYM parking lot.
The BACK GATE of the school will not open until 7:20 am, at which time students
may enter from all three locations.
Free weekend food for your child is available! Harvest Hands is teaming up with Ruckel to offer a supply of nutritious meals and snacks for children over the weekends. The food bags are ready for pickup by the students on Fridays.
If you believe your child could benefit from this program, please contact your child's school counselor, Laura Long (student last names A-K) or Jamie Perry (student last names L-Z). Contact the guidance office at 850-833-4142, ext. 3. Thank you!
Sign up for Bus Bulletin and receive notifications about unexpected delays or schedule changes. You will need to know your student's bus number to complete your registration.
Bus Bulletin information Flyer • Bus Schedule
The OCSD Transportation Office is still limiting any bus changes for students wanted to ride home on different buses or with friends. They are approving on a case-by-case basis only. For example, a parent requested their student ride home last week on bus 07-5, but the Transportation Office said the bus on that route is completely occupied, and did not approve the request. Parents may call the Transportation Office directly at 850-833-4161 for approval. Please have Transportation contact Ms. Davies in the Ruckel Front Office if the change is allowed.

We need front office help with attendance, clerk type work and some of the jobs listed above could be done voluntarily. There is no greater gift than serving the needs of children.
