Fourth Grade Music at Riverside

This Nine Weeks we:

  • On May 1, students attended the annual Link-Up concert with the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. A year’s worth of hard work learning to play the recorder and read music culminated in this fun concert featuring a Toreador and Can-Can dancers. We will take our recorder skills to the next level in 5th grade so please do not lose your recorder over the summer. Congratulations

Every fourth grader participates in a Music Class for 30 minutes once a week. Students will be singing, moving, creating, listening and playing instruments from lessons based on the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for Music.

The Riverside Chorus is a voluntary after school program for any 4thor 5th Grader who desires to participate. See the Chorus link on the School Website. 3rd-5th graders are also given the opportunity to join the Strings Ensemble after school program.  Please see the Orff Ensemble link on the School Website.

Riverside Fourth Graders will be participating in a very exciting program along with every fourth grader in Okaloosa County. The program, called LINK UP, was created by the Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute and pairs orchestras across the country with students in grades 3-5. Our 4th Grade Students will explore orchestral repertoire through a hands-on music curriculum which culminates in a concert where they sing and play the recorder with the orchestra from their seats. The Carnegie Hall Weill Music Institute is providing our students with a workbook to study with Ms. Avery during the Music Class. The workbook will guide us through learning the recorder instrument, as well as the music we will perform at the end of this school year. All our students need is a quality recorder, which can be purchased through Mrs. Suggs in the Music Room. or
