Who are we?

The Plew Parent Leaders Association is a community organization dedicated to finding ways to enhance the educational experience of students attending James E Plew Elementary. We work with the parents, teachers, administration and staff to help Plew Elementary be the best elementary school it can possibly be. We help facilitate this through parent volunteering, scheduling community fundraising events for our members and through corporate fundraising.

Who are our members?

The Plew Parent Leaders Association is comprised of the family of Plew Elementary students. Admission to the Plew PLA is free. Membership allows access to vote at all our General Membership meetings, an invitation to attend all monthly Plew PLA meetings, and an opportunity to volunteer for all Plew PLA activities.

The Plew PLA is open to hearing to new ideas and feedback. We welcome your ideas. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or ideas you'd like to share.

How can I help?

First and foremost, we'd like to encourage parents to participate in the PLA. Come to the meetings, look for our flyers and join our Facebook group to get information about volunteering opportunities as they arise. Also follow the PLA events page on Facebook to learn about upcoming events and attend these events whenever possible. One of the goals of the PLA is to foster a sense of community among Plew Elementary families.

Business members of the community can contribute in manys ways. Occassionally there are opportunies for businesses to donate directly to the PLA. Businesses have sponsored specific improvements at Plew Elementary. Businesses have also contributed goods, services and time to specific school events as well as auction items such as those offered at Plew PLA's annual Evening of the Arts Event.


Volunteer Application

All volunteers wishing to serve in an Okaloosa County school must submit a Volunteer Application which should be completed before a volunteer is allowed to interact with students. The Volunteer Application is required each year, even if you have volunteered at Plew before.

Beautification Committee

Got a green thumb? Have some time to weed or plant? You can be a Plew Planter! Many volunteer hours are spent keeping our school grounds looking beautiful. Every garden spot is adopted by a family who voluteers to keep that area green and growing. From the Magic TreeHouse reading area, to the Amphtheater, to the reading benches, Plew Planters make our school a great place to learn and grow.

Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committee is responsible for several events throughout the year. This committee is perfect for all levels of commitment! You can provide snacks (homemade or store-bought) when requested or help with set-up, execution and/or clean-up of events. Family Fun Nights Committee

The Family Fun Nights Committee helps put together events throughout the year where family and friends can come enjoy a night of fun together. Past Family Fun Nights have included Bingo, Movies and Crafts. 

The Fundraising Committee is responsible for the Fall Fundraiser, Corporate Donors & other misc fundraisers throughout the year. This committee meets mostly during the first few months of the year. 

Evening of the Arts

Plew's annual showcase of the artwork your children create during the school year is amazing! Each classroom has marvelous displays of student art in its own gallery. Hundreds of guests come out to purchase special items produced by the classes for sale in the Gallery Store, and to bid on the incredible items in our Silent Auction.

The classrooms work together to produce major masterpieces. Evening of the Arts is not only educational and fun, it also helps us raise thousands of dollars to use for enhancing our students' educational experience at Plew! Our success, as always, is due to the support of our wonderful parents and community. The art volunteers and room parents devote countless hours to making our Evenings so successful.

Room Parents/Classroom Volunteers

Each classroom benefits greatly from the involvement of the students’ parents. A Room Parent works closely with the classroom teacher coordinating special events during the year. They are the connection between the teacher and the rest of the parents when planning for parties, field trips, etc. It is not a huge investment of time but they need to enjoy organizing people and events. Please volunteer with your child’s teacher.

Ask your child's teacher if there are other volunteer opportunties with your child's class. Parents are always welcome to help with parties, field trips, and other classroom events. If you can't make it to school during the school day, maybe you can help at home. Just ask your teacher what needs to be done!


Fall FUNdraiser

The Plew Elementary Parent Leaders Association (PLA) is kicking off our Fall FUNdraiser! Unlike a traditional school fundraising campaign, Plew’s FUNdraiser is going to be a whole lot of fun! With the FUNdraiser, there’s no selling anything or collecting pledges or “thon” of any kind. This year you and your family can opt to make a simple, tax-deductible donation that directly benefits our school by supporting classroom technology needs and other student resources. The more money we raise to support our school, the more fun students will have through individual, teacher, class and grade-level rewards! This is a voluntary FUNdraiser. You may choose to participate in lieu of, or in addition to, any of our other fundraisers we will be doing throughout the school year.

Please include your child's name and teacher in the comments so we know who you are donating for.



Box Tops for Education

Plew is collecting Box Tops and we can scan grocery receipts on specially marked packaging.  The requirement is that you must scan within 14 days of purchase.  If you prefer, please send your receipts to the school, and volunteers will scan them for you.  Each item scanned is worth 10 cents which adds up quickly!

Each year, approximately $2000 is raised for the school from Box Tops.  Your help is needed to make this a success.

Spirit Nights

It's as easy as going out to eat once a month to help out the school! Spirit Nights are scheduled for the first Thursday of the month. - 21-22 school year

Sept. 2 (Order from Panera Bread 4 to 8 p.m.), Oct. 7 (Come join us for Fire and Food Trucks at Plew), Nov. 4 (Order from Hungry Howies 4 p.m. to close), Dec. 2 (Order from Panda Express), Feb. 3 (Order from Hungry Howie's 4 p.m. to close), Mar. 3 (Order from Whataburger), and May 5 (Order from Hungry Howie's 4 p.m. to close)

Plew PLA will receive a percentage of all orders including online orders. No need to save receipts-all sales during this time will go towards Plew!



Plew Parent Leader Association

Our children all benefit when their parents are actively involved in the learning and fundraising opportunities at the school. The families with children at Plew are known as the Plew Parent Leader Association, Inc., or the Plew PLA.

Our organization is now recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt, non-profit organization. This enables the funds we raise to stretch even further to provide for the many needs our students have that are not covered by the school budget.

Our mission is to enhance the educational experience of our children at Plew Elementary School, assisting the administration, teachers and staff to meet the needs of the students.

There is no membership fee connected with our association. The families of Plew students are automatically members of the Plew PLA. This means you have a vote at all our General Membership meetings, an invitation to attend all monthly Plew PLA meetings, and an opportunity to volunteer for all Plew PLA activities. This is your association, and we would like to hear your ideas.
