Link to Parent SurveyParent Satisfaction Survey

Our district is on a continuous journey to make our schools the best places for students to learn, staff to work and parents to send their children for a great education. In this effort, we appreciate your support. It is important to gather feedback from you to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth. Please take a few minutes and complete this Parent Satisfaction Survey to help provide this feedback.

Once the survey is complete, the results will be analyzed by an outside organization. The data from the survey will be returned to the District to be shared with each school, its parents and the community.

The survey can be accessed online at OCSD Parent Satisfaction Survey.

Our school may also provide you with a paper copy to complete.

The survey will be available through March 13, 2020.

Thank you for your interest in and support of your child’s education with us. Please contact your school if you have any questions concerning the survey.

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2020, are asked to register their children for 2020-2021 kindergarten during the period of February 18-March 31. Florida law provides that any child who will be 5 on or before September 1st is eligible for kindergarten that school year.  It is extremely important that new kindergarten students be registered during the February 18th- March 31st window for the fall (August) school opening.  Classes will be formed, teachers assigned, and materials ordered on the basis of student enrollment. Click here for details about how to register your child.

Parent Workshops

Parent to Parent - Panhandle Florida is conducting three short workshops for parents. The workshops will be held in the Plew cafeteria beginning at 2:00. The workshops are:

  • March 2 -  "Digital World Safety and Responsibility"
  • April 15 - "Keys to Success in Middle School" for 5th grade parents
  • May 19 - "Preventing the Summer Slide"

Mental Health and Wellness Instruction

Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Legislators recently enacted two new legislative requirements regarding mental health and safety. The first rule requires public schools to provide instruction to students related to youth substance use and abuse health education. OCSD will meet this requirement through Red Ribbon Week activities focusing on age appropriate drug prevention lessons and activities. The second rule requires public schools to provide instruction related to child trafficking prevention and awareness. OCSD has chosen to continue to use Monique Burr Foundation for Children's Child/Teen Safety Matters Programs to meet this requirement. Click here for more information. Congratulations to these Star Staff:

Sherri Cadenhead is always coming to my resuce when she hears me on the walkie-talkie looking for someoe. Today was no exception with the lobby filed, phone ringing, she ansered the phone and helped clear the lobby!
Danny Carnley has been at Plew for 10 years and has been a real asset to the Panthr Team. He has gone above and beyond to help when needed. He has really been doing an amazing job!
SRO Tori Cottrell The job that she does is so important to the school, community, and our society. She does it with class, dignity, and pride, and she imensely loves what she does. Thank you for the serivice that you provide every day.
Mary LaPointe is a blessing to Plew from her smiling face to her always positive attitude. She is personable, patient, caring and always looking out for the best of each student. Mrs. LaPointe keeps all the parents in her classroom updated on what the children are doing and is always willing to answer questions of any kind. My daughter has enjoyed kindergarten as an Elephant so far and is constantly talking positively about Mrs. LaPointe. As a first time parent, this has made my experience and transition easy. I truly believe that Mrs. LaPointe makes a postive impact on the children, families, and faculty at Plew Elementary.

Attendance Matters!

If children don't show up for school regularly, they miss out on fundamental reading and math skills and the chance to build a habit of good attendance that will carry them iinto college and careers. Preliminary data from a California study found that children who were chronically absent in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade. Find out more about why good attendance is important by clicking here.
