The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation (OPSF) is pleased to announce a new, innovative program to help Okaloosa’s high school students find and earn scholarship funds. According to sources, nearly $46 billion of financial aid is available annually, and billions go unclaimed every year. Part of this is students struggle to complete the application process.
The Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation (a non-profit 501c3), in conjunction with FWBHS, CareerSource Okaloosa Walton, L3, Waffle House, and Kelly Services, will conduct a skills development workshop to assist them in applying for, and ideally, winning these scholarship funds.
The Foundation will take a group of students and train them on writing their student essays and resumes, and then help them to actually apply for scholarship funds for college.
This program has been created in partnership with CareerSource Okaloosa, Kelly Services, L3 Communications, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and Waffle House. It was piloted at Fort Walton Beach High School in September and will be rolled out to all high schools in January 2016.
According to Michelle Burns, District Manager, Kelly Services “We often see talented employees who don’t have a well-crafted resume or cover letter. Kelly Services is excited to help our students develop these soft skills to earn scholarship funding and find greater opportunities.”
“CareerSource Okaloosa Walton is proud to be a partner in this program’, said Linda Sumblin, Executive Director CareerSource Okaloosa Walton. “We look forward to hosting this program at our facility to help these students find scholarship funds”.
The Foundation is excited to bring this new program to our students.
