Edge ES Students Have Fun with Interactive Energy Experiments

Dr. Tom Gilbar and Craig Anderson from the University of West Florida's Fort Walton Beach Engineering program, recently visited Cynthia Hanson’s and Bridget Larue’s 3rd grade science classes at Edge Elementary School in Niceville. They brought fun, hands-on experiments to help the kids better understand and visualize the energy concepts they have been learning in class. The investigations dealt with transferring and transforming different types of energy (sound, electrical, light, heat, etc). The 3rd graders enjoyed activities such as generating electricity with a hand cranked Van De Graaff generator and performing some basic chemistry experiments using common household ingredients.
