Okaloosa County Sherrif's Office Makes Generous Donation to Take Stock In Children

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) recently made a generous donation to the Take Stock in Children Scholarship Program of the Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation.  Funds from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is funded from assets seized through the Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act, will provide program support for Take Stock.  Students with great potential and good school records are selected from schools throughout Okaloosa County.  They pledge to maintain that good record, remain drug-free and crime-free and meet with a community-based mentor throughout high school.  Those who keep that commitment are awarded full scholarships to the post-secondary institutions of their choice.  In accepting the donation, Special Projects Coordinator Dort Baltes expressed appreciation for the funds that will assist program staff in assuring that Take Stock Scholars achieve their goals of attaining a college education.

About Take Stock in Children

Take Stock in Children, a Florida 501(c)3 non-profit organization, provides  mentors,  scholarships and hope for Florida’s low-income and deserving students. Incorporated in 1995 and maintaining a 96 percent high school graduation rate, TSIC is Florida’s flagship and most successful mentoring and scholarship program. In every Florida county, TSIC scholars in middle and high school pledge to meet regularly with their mentor, maintain academic standards, and remain drug and crime-free on the way to achieving a high school diploma. The reward for fulfilling these commitments is a scholarship to a Florida state college, university or vocational school.
