Brodie Lacanilao, Ruckel Middle School, selected as the Okaloosa County School District’s Art in the Capitol Winner
Superintendent Marcus Chambers visited Ruckel Middle School recently to celebrate Brodie Lacanilao, a 7th grader, as the Okaloosa County School District’s Art in the Capitol Winner. Brodie’s portrait entitled ZHC is now on display in the Florida Capitol. “Brodie is a talented student who has a passion for art & his skill set is impressive,” stated Chambers. Brodie’s Art Teacher is Gina Piccorossi.
The Florida Legislature passed House Bill 701 establishing the Art in the Capitol Competition, a statewide visual arts competition for Florida students in grades 6 through 8. Each school district is required to hold an annual art competition with artwork judged by a selection committee consisting of art teachers. The winning art from each district is then displayed in the Capitol during the legislative session.
