PSAT Postponed for 9th and 10th Grades

PSAT is postponed for 9th (Freshman) AND 10th (Sophomores) until January 26, 2021. Juniors can still test on October 14, 2020, or January 26, 2021.

9th (Freshmen) and 10th (Sophomores)

With interruption of instruction due to hurricane Sally and the safety precautions needed to administer the PSAT to over 700 students on October 14, Niceville High School has  made the decision to postpone the administration of the PSAT to 9th (freshmen) and 10th (sophomores) students until January 26, 2021.  9th (freshmen) grade students who signed up and paid for the PSAT on do not need to do anything. Your registration and payment will be saved. For any freshmen that did not register yet, you will register during dates set in January. Please watch our website for further information later in the semester.

11th (Juniors)

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Both organizations are fully aware of the challenges that students, parents, and schools face in trying to administer a test to large groups. That is why they have offered a January 26, 2021 test to all students. Any junior wishing to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship can take the test on October 14 or wait and take the test on January 26, 2021.  At Niceville High School we believe this flexibility offered by College Board and the National Merit Organization could benefit our juniors more time to prepare. Students may only take one test.  Any junior still wishing to take the test on October 14 may do so and will need to sign up on The deadline for registration without paying a late fee has been extended until October 5. Juniors taking the PSAT on October 14 will be in small groups of no more than 20 students with desks spaced apart. Students will be encouraged to wear masks and desk barriers will be used. Our plan is to have Myschoolonline students test in a separate location to address health and safety concerns.

If you have any questions or concerns, please email Jerral Horton.

Rachel Bartek Morrison

Child: Junior. I want to help improve our school for all current and future Eagles. I am an enthusiastic parent and supporter of all NHS sports, clubs, band, etc. As a business owner, I understand reviewing policy, developing plans, and team success through collaboration.

Yavontka Boose-Martin

Child: Freshman. I would like to serve on the NHS SAC because I would enjoy using all of my skills, talents and abilities for the improvement of our NHS community. More specifically, I enjoyed my last SAC experience at Deer Point Elementary (2013-14, Lynn Haven FL) and positively impacted Okaloosa STEMM Academy as PTO President (2018-19, Valparaiso FL). I believe that I can continue to be of service to my child’s school community. I am sincerely interested in getting NHS and our students the resources they need to continue the legacy of excellence. I enjoy working with people and have a special affinity for youth development. My life has always been one in service for others: I am an Air Force veteran, currently a government civilian attorney, a youth leader in my church and a member of Kiwanis International Valparaiso-Niceville. I also have experience with owning my own business and advising clients on business matters.

Scarlett BrockScarlett Brock

Child: Freshman. As a Niceville HS teacher and parent, I feel it is my duty to do all that I can to ensure the Niceville HS remains the best!

Kasey HarrelsonKasey Harrelson

Children: Sophomore and Senior. I would love to serve on SAC to help our school continue to be amazing. The pandemic has likely changed our school's trajectory from class sizes to athletic interruptions, which can be viewed with a positive spin if we can keep the "glass half full" mentality going. I enjoy problem solving, being flexible with change and thinking outside the box. My husband and I are both invested in our community. As a realtor, I know that our school and its successes are one area that drive our real estate economy. I hope I can be a benefit to the team. My husband, as an oral surgeon, is invested in our community's healthcare. After a transient life of military moves, we are excited to plant roots and do our part for the community. I hope you will allow me to serve. Kasey

Meloney Howell

Child: Senior.  I would like to serve on the NHS SAC to help the school attain its goal of providing each student with the best education possible by supporting our principal, teachers, and school staff. I am 100% invested in NHS having a child involved in honors classes, athletics, and extracurricular activities. I am excited for the opportunity to make a difference at Niceville High school and help the school continue on the path of providing a great education.

Joe LafitteJoe Lafitte

Child: Freshman. Being a prior teacher and an active parent, I would like to contribute what I can to help our leadership make great decisions to better our children's environment. I have been on SAC for the last 8 years, as I have followed my children from Bluewater Elementary, Ruckel, and Niceville High School.
