Top Middle School Math Students Headed to State MATHCOUNTS Competition

The top middle school math students are headed to the State MATHCOUNTS competition in Orlando on March 20, 2015.  District middle school math teams vied for a spot in the State competition earlier this February at the District MATHCOUNTS competition which was held at the Okaloosa STEMM Center.

The Okaloosa STEMM Academy team won first place and the Bruner Middle team took second place.  Both teams will travel to Orlando along with the highest ranking individual winners who are not official members of either of the winning teams.

The Okaloosa competition is sponsored annually by the Florida Engineering Society-Emerald Coast Chapter(FES-ECC) whose members, along with members of the Emerald Coast Post-Society of American Military Engineers(SAME), volunteer their time to manage and run the morning competition.

“Thank you SAME for the generous donation to FES-ECC to help offset the cost to our teams to travel to Orlando and to the Engineers of America who through a National Defense Education Program grant also assists in funding the State trip and funding for school team registration costs,” said Debbie Davis, the Math Curriculum Specialist for the Okaloosa School District.
