Teresa Miller Named Assistant Principal of Destin Middle School

Teresa Miller was named the Assistant Principal of Destin Middle School at the August 10, 2015 Okaloosa County School Board Meeting.

“As a product of Okaloosa schools, attending Plew, Ruckel, and Niceville High School, I was inspired by amazing teachers and administrators to love learning,” said Miller.  “That passion led me to an A.A. degree in Accounting from O.W.C.C. where I taught global economics to middle school students through the Jr. Achievement program.  This experience transformed my love of learning into a love of teaching.”

Miller obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Florida in 1995 and earned the Most Outstanding Student in Elementary Education award. A Merit Graduate Scholarship from UWF allowed her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership and a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2009.  She has been accepted into the doctoral program at UWF and looks forward to continuing her education in the future.

“My teaching experiences include 1st, 3rd, and 4th grades at Plew Elementary where I received the Top Notch Teacher Award for integrating technology into thematic units,” said Miller.  “After six years there, I took eight years off to raise our children and open Apple of My Eye Childcare Center.  I returned to teaching 3rd grade traditional and gifted classes as well as 5th grade science at Bluewater Elementary where I hosted student teachers, mentored developing teachers and was a Digital Educator.  I have served on multiple school and district committees and was honored to be selected as Bluewater Elementary’s 2014 Teacher of the Year.  My love of teaching expanded to include teachers, particularly those at Mary Esther Elementary, where I most recently served as the assistant principal.   I was blessed with opportunities to support teachers, students, and parents in an amazing learning environment that nurtured and further developed my leadership skills.”

Miller went on to say, “I could not have been successful at any of my roles without the dedication and support of my husband of 19 years, ret MGST Patrick Miller who is also a dedicated employee of the school district and our three children; Hannah, a freshman at Niceville High School, Nathan a 7th grader at Ruckel and Eliora a 4th grader at Bluewater Elementary.”

Teresa states that she is very honored and humbled by the amount of warmth and support she has felt so far by the parents, students and staff at Destin Middle School and she looks forward to getting to know each and every student and family as she supports the mission of ensuring continued excellence in education for every middle school student in the Destin community.
