Camille Miles (NHS) and Ben Sherwin (Okaloosa STEMM Academy) Recognized for Winning State Science and Engineering Fair

Camille Miles, Niceville High School, and Ben Sherwin, Okaloosa STEMM Academy, were recognized at the May 22 School Board Meeting for winning the Florida State Science and Engineering Fair.

Ben Sherwin won in the Junior Division in Engineering with his project titled “For Your Ears Only.” (Ben was unable to attend the School Board Meeting.)

Camille Miles won in the Senior Division in Physics with her project titled “Thermoelectric Generator Powered Tracking Concentrated Photovoltaic System.”  In addition to 1st place at State, Camille also received one of 8 Best in Fair Awards receiving an International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) bid to represent the State of Florida. At the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles, California, Camille won “Best in Category” and a “First Place” award.  She is also one of the five students chosen for the “Intel Foundation Cultural and Scientific Visit to China,” an 11-day trip to Beijing, Chengdu, and Hong Kong.  Camille is ranked in the top 22 of the world’s 1,788 top young high school scientists!

Daniel Bobbitt, Niceville HS, also won a 4 Year Scholarship to the Florida Institute of Technology at ISEF with his project “Go with the Flow: Increasing the Efficiency of the Tesla Turbine to Reduce the Cost of Cleaner Energy Generation from Natural Gas.”
