School Board Names New Administrators

Melissa Bowell was named Curriculum Specialist and Holly Tew was named Assistant Principal I, Crestview High School at the February 9, 2015 School Board Meeting. 

Melissa Bowell - Curriculum Specialist

Melissa Bowell is a proud product of Okaloosa County Schools, having attended Combs New Heights, Bruner Middle School, and Fort Walton Beach High School.  She received her BA in English from The Florida State University, her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of West Florida, is Nationally Board Certified, and is completing her Specialist in Ed. Leadership at the University of West Florida.  

Melissa continues to refine her craft by annually participating as a reader for AP Literature and being an active member on the FSA ELA Content Review Committee.  Prior to working as a district level Instructional Coach for the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, she taught AP English Literature, 10th Grade English Honors, and AICE General Paper at Fort Walton Beach High School.  It is Melissa’s passion for all students to have equity and access to rigorous courses. Her fundamental belief is that all kids can rise to the challenge if given the opportunity and the instruction.

Melissa’s family has deep roots within Okaloosa County Schools.  She is married to David, the School Resource Officer at Bruner Middle School and they have two daughters, Abigail and Madeline who attend Edge Elementary.  Melissa’s twin sister, Heather Powell, is the Military and Family Life Counselor at Lewis School.  Her mother, Helen Holt, is a 34-year veteran teacher who has taught at Bruner Middle School for the last 27 years.  A love for public education has been an influential force throughout Melissa’s life.

Holley Tew - Assistant Principal I, Crestview High School

Holly Tew began her educational career in the Okaloosa County School District 21 years ago. Tew has taught both math and science at the middle and high school levels. She has served as the Assistant Principal at Shoal River Middle School and, most recently, at Riverside Elementary.

A native Floridian, Tew earned her Bachelor's Degree in Math and Science Education from the University of West Florida.  She also holds a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas - Arlington.  She adores all things STEMM and embraces her inner geek. She firmly believes in the importance of empowering every student with the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in life.  She is committed to the students, parents, faculty, and staff at Crestview High School and is thrilled to become a Bulldog.

Tew has been married to Aaron Tew, a Crestview native and CHS alumnus, for almost 22 years. They have been blessed with three children. Chapman, age eighteen, is a senior at Crestview High School.  Fourteen-year-old Weston will be a Crestview Bulldog in the fall.  Aubrey, age 11, is relishing her last few months in 5th grade.  Tew enjoys spending time with her family, serving in her church, playing the piano, designing digitally, and watching University of Florida athletics.
