Scarlett Brock, Ruckel MS, and Cyndi Stone, FWBHS, Named AFA Hurlburt Chapter 398 Teachers of the Year

Each year, the Air Force Association Hurlburt Chapter 398 (as other chapters across America) accepts nominations for Chapter Elementary, Middle, and High School Teacher of the Year (TOY).  They also select an overall winner from the three.

“The purpose of the annual Teacher of the Year program is to recognize classroom teachers at the chapter, state, and national level for their accomplishments and achievements in exciting K-12 students about science and math (STEM) and preparing them to use and contribute to tomorrow’s technologies,” said Rick Soria, M.Ed., AFA Hurlburt Chapter 398, VP for Aerospace Education.  “This is a unique opportunity for us to reward special teachers who are furthering excellence and making coming to class an adventure.”

The overall teacher of the year is also offered a scholarship to attend the Space Camp Educator course, in Huntsville, Alabama.   The Chapter will reimburse the Space Camp tuition costs (almost $1,000) for the selected teacher.

The Hurlburt Chapter #398 Executive Board reviewed the nominations received from across the panhandle counties and selected a winner in each category (Elementary, Middle, and High School).  From Okaloosa County, the winners were:

Each teacher was presented a certificate and a check for $250. Stone, Brock, and their administrators were invited to the formal recognition ceremony and banquet to be scheduled for the fall.

“The AFA appreciates what teachers do,” said Soria.  “All teachers are making a difference in the lives of their students.”
