Okaloosa County Minority Council Recognizes Volunteers

The Okaloosa County School District’s Minority Council recently recognized two individuals who have worked tirelessly for the success of the program in their schools and throughout the District.

Anne Larsen, Bruner Middle School, has worked diligently in her free time to ensure that the organization is financially sound and that no financial errors are made.

Vanessa Harrington, Eglin Elementary School, has been the driving force behind adding elementary chapters to the district program.

The Minority Council encourages and motivates minority students for academic excellence.  The program’s goals are to increase participation of minority students in community services and local cultural events (NAACP ACT-SO, mLK events, etc.) and to develop leadership and discourage negative peer influences.  The councils supports our state initiative in regards to closing the achievement gap between majority and minority students.
