October 20th - 24th Is School Bus Safety Week

School Bus Safety Week is October 20 – 24, 2014.  This year’s theme “AT MY STOP, YOU STOP” is a reminder to students and motorists about the dangers that exist outside the school bus.  This slogan emphasizes how both students, and other motorists, should be aware of the correct procedures when approaching a school bus that has stopped to load or unload passengers.

Nearly half a million school buses are on the road each day in the Unites States.  Safety is more than just an element in our daily routines.  It is, in simple terms, the most important part of our duties each and every day.  The care and professionalism that each of our school bus operators  show each day, keeps our students safe during their daily trips to and from school.  Please take this opportunity presented by School Bus Safety Week, to recognize and acknowledge the efforts and continued hard work of our school bus operators, assistants, and safe school monitors for their dedication in transporting our students safely.

School Bus Safety Week serves as a reminder to discuss how we can all improve safety at the schools, at the bus stops and on board our buses.  Colonel David Brierton, Director, Florida Highway Patrol, reminds us that “School Bus Safety is everyone’s responsibility. School buses transport Florida’s future and we need to work together to ensure the safety of our children on Florida’s roadways.”
