Mimi Taylor, NHS Senior, Takes Home State Title

Mimi Taylor, a senior at Niceville High School did her best at the Distinguished Young Women of Florida and took home the state title.  In June, she will represent Florida by competing in the national Distinguished Young Women program.

Distinguished Young Women is a national scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments.  Distinguished Young Women strives to give every young woman the opportunity to further her education and prepare for a successful future.

Each Distinguished Young Women program evaluates participants in the following categories: Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%).  Local program winners advance to the state level.  All state winners participate in the National Finals which is held in Mobile, Alabama the June after graduation.

In addition, through the Life Skills program, which includes workshops and online resources, participants can learn skills like interviewing, public speaking, self-confidence building and much more.

This past summer, Taylor was named the Okaloosa County Distinguished Young Woman of 2016.  Last week Taylor arrived in Winter Garden for the State competition and was immediately thrown into hours of rehearsals.  She and the rest of the Distinguished Young Women from around the state toured the local area and even got a behind the scenes tour at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Taylor said she made a lot of lasting friendships through the week.

Best wishes at Nationals in June!
