Lori Wagner Named AP of Walker Elementary School

Lori Wagner was named the Assistant Principal at Walker Elementary School at the July 24th School Board Meeting.  A product of Okaloosa County School District, Lori graduated from Baker School in 1986 and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of West Florida in 1989.

After 27 years of teaching, Lori says that she has learned the key to professional growth is flexibility.  Her first fourteen years of teaching were spent in sixth through twelfth grade secondary classrooms between Laurel Hill School and Baker School, as a Family and Consumer Science teacher.  During those years, she also served as the peer tutoring coordinator, FHA sponsor, prom coordinator, pageant director, homecoming coordinator, yearbook sponsor, senior activities coordinator, and as a Take Stock in Children mentor.  She added elementary education to her certificate and taught all subjects in third, fourth, and fifth grades.  During those 11 years, she mentored new teachers, served on the School Advisory Council, served as an Observation Classroom teacher and Florida Digital Educator, wrote and received several grants, served as the grade level chair, and took a turn managing the youth basketball league.

Lori was named school Teacher of the Year twice and selected as a finalist for the 2007 Okaloosa County School District Teacher (OSCD) of the Year.  For nine years she coordinated a secondary gifted and talented program as well as provided weekly gifted services for elementary. For the past two years, she has served as an OCSD Instructional Coach, supporting curriculum and instruction needs and presenting professional development to the faculties of Walker Elementary and Southside Primary School. Completing her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership in 2015, she completed the OCSD Level II Leadership Program in 2016.

“I am humbly aware that I am a small part of a district that includes the brightest and hardest working educators in the state,” said Wagner.  “My professional path has taken me in unexpected directions and has taught me to whole-heartedly embrace the challenges that lie ahead!”

Lori has been married to Brian Wagner, Dean of Students at Niceville High School for 27 years and they have three wonderful children. Logan, who is married to Sarah and stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB. Haley who is married to Cody and working as a RN at Sacred Heart Hospital and Emma who is a freshman at Niceville High School.
