Local Elementary Students Participate in Future Chefs Culinary Challenge

Eight local elementary students from all over the school district participated in Sodexo’s Future Chef Competition on Thursday, March 5th at Ruckel Middle School.  Students were asked to prepare a healthy recipe to be judged by a distinguished panel of judges.

Lillian Miller, a 3rd grade student at Riverside Elementary School won first place last week with her “Yummy in my Tummy Parfait” at the Future Chefs Culinary Challenge held at Ruckel Middle School.  Adria Womack, Elliot Point Elementary School, placed second with her Strawberry Cheese Cake Sandwiches, and Amanda Montague, a 4th grade student at Lewis School, placed third with her Grilled Apple Cheese.

According to Sodexo, the national program is part of their commitment to bolstering local communities by promoting well-being in support of achievement. The Future Chefs competition was created to get students thinking about making healthy food choices in life while also encouraging them to get active and creative in the kitchen.

Students worked with district Sodexo staff to prepare their own recipes which were then judged on originality, ease of preparation, taste, presentation, kid friendliness, and use of healthy ingredients.

“We were blessed to have eight contestants that had a super fun time cooking their favorite ‘Healthy Snack,’ said Betty Jo Marcotte, Sodexo Field Supervisor.  “Family, friends, principals and everyone had a great time.”

Congratulations to all of the participants:
