Kenwood ES Students Give and Receive Help for the Holidays

Trinity United Methodist Church received the names of Kenwood Elementary School's neediest families and sent out wish lists to each family for specific Christmas gifts.

“They then hung the names with the information on Christmas trees at the church, where people from the congregation purchased gifts,” said Lynn Griggs, Kenwood’s Title 1 Reading Teacher.  “Trinity arrived at Kenwood on December 11th with a moving truck filled with toys and thirteen brand new bikes!”

In the meantime, Kenwood held a canned food drive, to provide food for Christmas for these families.  Kenwood's Student Council used money earned from the sale of candy grams to buy each family a holiday turkey.

“This is a beautiful example of children helping children, as well as community partners helping to make Christmas special,” said Griggs.  “As the Student Council members were helping load the gifts in cars, one little girl said, ‘My heart is so happy!’"
