Jamie Garea, Edge ES, Attends Plant Camp

Jamie Garea, a second grade teacher at Edge Elementary School, recently attended Plant Camp, a joint project by the UF/IFAS Center for Aquatic and Invasive plants and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.  This weeklong intensive program on invasive plant and animal species is geared toward educating the next generation to be good stewards of the earth.

Plant Camp organizers created a package of 60 lessons and presentations for elementary through high school students.  All of the standards are aligned to Florida’s education standards.  Throughout the week’s activities, the focus was on showing teachers how to bring the effects of invasive plants home to students.

“It was an enriching and exciting experience that I would encourage other science teachers to participate in,” said Garea.
