The Great Gatsby Comes to Choctawhatchee High School

Taking a trip back to the early 20th century, the Choctawhatchee High School juniors participated in a Great Gatsby Day on Friday, May 16, 2014 as they studied the book.

The celebration was organized by Linda Evanchyk and her English III Honors students.  The students transformed the school’s cafeteria into Jay Gatsby’s party room.  While the Choctaw Jazz Band provided entertainment, the students danced the Lindy Hop and Waltz.  Several students sang and danced for the audience and English teacher, Dave Dodson, led a flash mob in dancing the Charleston.

More than 200 students entered the party room via the red carpet.  Rachel Hood and Beecher Riddle played the parts of Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.

The event concluded with the students viewing the 2013 version of the movie based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel about bootlegging and romance.
