FWBHS Art Students Selected To Participate in Congressional Art Competition

Congratulations to five art students from Fort Walton Beach High School whose artwork was selected to participate in the 2015 “An Artistic Discovery” Congressional Art Competition for high school students recently at the Anna Samar Switzer Center for Visual Arts at Pensacola State College. 

These students competed with area high schools from Escambia, Santa Rosa, Walton and Holmes counties.  There were 18 high schools that competed with a total of 73 participating students.  All students received a certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Jeff Miller. 

“There were only six awards and we are pleased to announce that Meagan Hindel won an Honorable Mention for her photograph titled, ‘Sipping Nectur’,” said Kim Moran, Fort Walton Beach High School’s Art Teacher.  “The other students who participated were Elizabeth Taylor, Kansas Cherry, Patimaporn Phengphit, and Andrea De Jesus.”

The artwork was judged by a panel of independent judges.  The artist awarded the “best of show” received an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. for a nationwide reception and their artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol.
