District Holds New Teacher Orientation

On Friday, August 7, the Office of Teacher Evaluation, Certification, and New Teacher Induction hosted an orientation for the Okaloosa County School District (OCSD) newly hired teachers at the Northwest Florida State College Student Center.

Assistant Superintendents Stacie Smith, Marcus Chambers, and Steve Horton were present to welcome this year’s group of 134 new teachers, guidance counselors, psychologists, and therapists to the OCSD team.

New hires received copies of the OCSD Guidebook for Newly Hired Teachers, and $15 gift cards to Learning World.  Designed to provide timely and valuable information to ensure a smooth transition to the first days of school, the all-day training is the first in a number of professional development opportunities provided to new hires. Guest speakers for whole group and break-out sessions included representatives from the team of Peer Evaluators, Instructional Coaches, Student Intervention Services, and Seat Management Technology.

Sylvia Mobley, a teacher on special assignment, oversees the district’s New Teacher Induction Program.
