Destin ES Students Run In Sea of Color

Destin Elementary School was a sea of color and smiles on Thursday, May 7th, during the first Annual Destin Color Run.

Parent volunteers and even Principal, Janet Stein, threw colorful powder on the students as they ran laps on the track to raise money for their school.

“At Destin Elementary School our community businesses, parents, teachers, staff and students all collaborate to make events like this happen,” said Stein.  “The first annual Color Run was a fun event that raised money for the school while simultaneously raising school spirit!  Our community business partners supported our Color Run with T-shirts and sun glasses.  Our PTO went above and beyond.  Our Fabulous Four: Kerri Ford, Tara Scott, Leigh Harris and Lori David manned the steering committee that made it all happen.”

“We came up with the color run and even made a theme, ‘Show your true colors’ to tie it all together,” said color run organizer and PTO Vice President Tara Scott.

Daily announcements focused on character traits such as caring, responsibility, and empathy for others.  Students earned character counts coins from the School’s SRO Deputy and earned classroom and student recognition.

“The Color Run at Destin Elementary School will become a permanent part of our traditions that foster school spirit and improve the educational opportunities at Destin Elementary,” said Stein.

Money raised from the event will go to help fund DES programs and equipment costs.
