Destin ES Students Environmentally Aware

After learning about the environmental issues with plastic through a presentation made by the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center, a group of Destin Elementary School 4th grade students wrote letters to Destin Mayor, Mel Ponder.  In these letters, the students expressed their desire to ban free plastic bags in Destin, Florida.

“The mayor was so impressed with the students that he came the school to thank them personally,” said Scheree Martin, Assistant Principal Destin Elementary School.  “He told them he would start an awareness campaign for the public and that he is pleased Destin is moving in the right direction to be more environmentally friendly!”
