Children’s Volunteer Health Network’s Mobile Dental Clinic Visits Okaloosa Schools

The Children’s Volunteer Health Network’s “Just for Grins” Mobile Dental Clinic (MDC) will be visiting several Okaloosa County schools this school year.  They have visited Laurel Hill School and are currently at Baker School.  The MDC will be heading to Walker Elementary at the beginning of November and then to Riverside Elementary in December/January.

The MDC Program provides preventive dental care for students in 2nd - 5th grades at Laurel Hill School and Baker School that qualify for the program.  This will be their first year visiting Walker and Riverside and they will be providing care for children in 2nd and 5th grades.  They are hoping to add more grades at these two schools next year if their schedule permits.  The services provided include: Bitewing x-rays, exams by a dentist, oral health education, cleanings, sealants and fluoride treatments.  All services on the MDC are free.  The MDC program also visits 5 elementary schools in Walton County and Children in Crisis in Okaloosa County.

The “Just for Grins” Mobile Dental Clinic is a 34 foot RV transformed into a 2-bay mobile dental clinic. It is managed and staffed by two Registered Dental Hygienists.  Besides visits to schools in Okaloosa and Walton Counties they partner with local agencies in the summer to provide oral health education and dental screenings.  Some of these locations are, Emerald Coast Boys and Girls Club, Youth Village and Friendship House Ministries.  Kindergarten dental screenings are also done at selected schools.

The children that have teeth that need restorative care are referred to the CVHN Dental Clinic in Santa Rosa Beach.  The CVHN Dental Clinic serves students that are enrolled in Okaloosa and Walton County schools that are in Kindergarten through 12th grade that qualify for the program.  The clinic provides preventive and restorative care.  The services are free.  Medicaid is accepted at the clinic but the students can still be seen even if they do not have Medicaid.
